Admission
The Pilgrims' is a selective school in the broadest sense, seeking to include as many boys as possible who will benefit from what the school offers.
Entry is normally into Reception (4+) in the Pre-Prep, or into Year 3 (7+) and Year 4 (8+) in the Prep. We regularly receive a small number of boys into Year 7 (11+), often for preparation relative to Scholarship, Winchester or Common Entrance examinations. Other ages of entry may be possible subject to availability. Boarding normally begins in Year 4, which is also the first entry point for the Choristers and Quiristers, the boys in our two professional choirs.
The admission procedure normally takes place in early November for entry the following year. It involves an assessment on a broad basis, and includes testing in English and Mathematics, a perceptual and reasoning test, and such other tests and activities as may prove helpful in determining readiness to begin. A confidential report from the pupil's present school is also requested as part of the admission procedure.
