A marathon effort

Runners in the Winchester Half Marathon were once again marshalled across the finish line by our Cubs and Scouts, the 4th Winchester.

This was the fourth year of the Winchester Half Marathon and the fourth year that the 4th Winchester have had the pleasure to have been asked to marshall on the finish line. The race day seemed to herald the end of the English summer, the temperature dropped and the heavens opened. But nothing dampened the spirits of the 1500 runners pounding the streets of Winchester as they completed the 13.1mile course and nothing dampened the enthusiasm of the 20 Cubs and Scouts waiting for them on the finish line outside the Guildhall. They rewarded the tired runners with a smile, words of congratulations, a banana, and water.

With thanks to those boys who came along -  it was hard work. And thanks to the parents who hung around frantically unwrapping foil blankets and braving the very heavy showers. This activity not only gave the boys the chance to volunteer and support a local activity, but we also raised £200 in the process. Bravo.
