Turning an idea into reality

Following the end of their exams, Mr Burton  gave a presentation to Year 8 to inspire future entrepreneurs, based on his own recent experience of setting up a new company.

Eighteen months ago, Mr Burton (Main School Assistant Housemaster) was on duty in the boarding house when he saw a boarder tearing off the page from his ‘word-of-the-day’ calendar. It sparked an idea, and the result was  My First Calendar, a calendar with engaging activities for toddlers on every page of the year.

Throughout the talk, Mr Burton introduced keywords which built up a picture of the skills needed for a business start-up; inspiration, determination, drive, perseverance, research and confidence. The boys learned about trademarks, choosing printing companies, stockists, marketing, and the importance of creating an online presence.

You can see Mr Burton's inspiration turned into reality at www.burtielearning.com,  or you could pop over to the Christmas Market outside the Cathedral and find Burtie Learning at chalet 22 - but only until Friday 6 December.
