Open days and visits

The Pilgrims' School is a busy, vibrant community, which we love to share with visitors. We hold two open mornings each year. They are during a school morning, so you can spend time in classrooms and get a sense of how we teach, and how the boys learn. Our senior boys will be your guides, and you are welcome to ask them lots of questions. Be prepared for long answers, our boys love to chat! The Headmaster, teachers, and current parents will be available to meet you, and there will be tea and coffee stops to keep you going.

To book your place at our open morning on Saturday 12 October, 9am - 12pm, please complete the information below.

  • Drop in anytime during the first part of the morning for a tour of the school with our senior boys - they are the only people who can tell you what it is really like to be a Pilgrim! Spend time in our classrooms, so that you can see first hand how we teach specifically to boys.

  • The Head of the Pre-Prep will be pleased to welcome you and show you the Pre-Prep classrooms and play areas. There will be lots of fun things for your little boy to do, while you explore where our love of learning begins.

  • Chat over a coffee during our morning break, at 10.45am– 11.15am, and meet current parents, the Headmaster, the Head of Juniors, and other key staff who will be available to answer any questions.

  • Visiting families are welcome to enjoy fun activities with our Junior boys, from 11.15am– 12.00pm.
Don't forget to pop upstairs and see our themed dormitories, which “must be the nicest anywhere” (Good Schools Guide)

New to Winchester?

Our open mornings are an ideal opportunity to come with your family to explore the school and our beautiful location. We are moments away from the town with lots of child-friendly places to eat, drink and stay. There's a riverside walk from our gate, which leads to a lovely park and the High Street with places to eat, and we are just a short drive from the countryside and coast. Why not make a day of it? Winchester has a great website which you might find helpful.

Pop in to see our Pre-Prep

The Pre-Prep holds additional events each term for parents with pre-school children, with a focus on EYFS and joining the school in Reception. More information can be found in our Pre-Prep pages, here.

Come and see our sport

Matches are played on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons on our sports pitches adjacent to the school, next to Wolvesey Palace at the bottom of Wharf Hill (SO23 9NF). You are welcome to come and watch, please check the school calendar for fixtures. In the summer, there is an ice-cream van parked right outside...

Individual tours

You are very welcome to arrange an individual tour during the week, on a school morning.

Our Location

We are blessed with a truly idyllic location. Just an hour south of London by direct train, with easy access to all the major travel hubs, and yet we are surrounded by the stunning countryside of the South Downs National Park. The school is tucked away  between Winchester Cathedral and Winchester College, within the secure and secluded Cathedral Close. Moments from our front door is the heart of the historic city of Winchester, or step through our back gate to find water meadows, countryside, and the South Downs Way.
