Year 4 residential to Tile Barn, New Forest

Year 4 had a fantastic trip away to Tile Barn at Brockenhurst last week!

When we arrived on Thursday, we were greeted by our camp leaders who showed us around our amazing bunkhouse. Our rooms were huge, and we could choose whether we wanted to sleep on the bottom or top of the bunk. It was great fun sleeping in the same room as our friends. We unpacked and got our teddies set up for the evening.  After that, we ate a delicious packed-lunch in the bunkhouse garden. There was even a giant ‘Connect Four!’

We started our activities that afternoon. Crate stacking was so much fun (and also so challenging!) We took it in turns to stack crates or pull the ropes. Lots of us ended up dangling midair when our crate towers fell down. After that, we had shelter-building in the woodland. This took a lot of teamwork and creative thinking as we had to make a shelter from a set of ropes and tarpaulin.

Later that evening, after a delicious dinner in the bunkhouse, we enjoyed playing football, cricket or Uno outside before showering and getting ready for bed. Before we went to bed though, we thought about where we could place our teddies for the teddy competition (Dorm Two won it in the end)!

After a dorm check in the morning, we enjoyed a wonderful, cooked breakfast with a side bowl of cereal, ready for another morning of fun activities. The orienteering was tricky at first, but once we got used to holding the map the right way round, we started to tick off the checkpoints quickly. We really enjoyed having the freedom to run around the whole camp! Our last activity was problem-solving. From swinging across a gap to moving a tennis ball down a hill with tubes, this activity tested our leadership and teamwork but was also really fun and rewarding! After lunch in the garden, it was time to go home.

Overall, we all had a brilliant time and can’t wait for our next residential next year.
