School Challenge: Junior Schools Plate Winners
This year, Pilgrims’ entered the national ‘School Challenge’ quiz competition for the first time in a number of years.
A strong team was assembled with four Year 8s (Alife O – Capt, Edward D, Will W and Henry SM), ably backed up by a Year 7 (Teddy Y) who stepped in as sub when others were away.
Having lost in the first round, we were entered into the Plate Competition and managed to make it all the way to the finals day, which happened online on Sunday 14th June. After winning a tie-break against King Edward’s, Chelmsford, we then had a scare against King Edward’s, Birmingham – having been more than 100 points up with 5 minutes to go, they stormed back to almost nick it on the last question, losing 430 to our 450! The final, against yet another King Edward’s (this time Camp Hill) prove a relatively straightforward game as we ran out victors 440 to 200.
Well done to all the boys; a superb performance and nice to win some silverware in our first year back in the competition. We look forward to next year!
