Art Scholarship - Art competitions - Young Artists' Summer Show - Hampshire Prep School Art - 'Hares of Hampshire' project - Instagram

During this week’s Head’s Assembly, on Monday, 24 January, I spoke to the boys about some exciting Art opportunities.

I started by showing the boys some photos of Alfie's Year 8 Art Portfolio and an Art Installation he produced last week, both of which he has created as a part of his preparations for two Art Scholarship assessment days which are held by his chosen senior schools. We admired the variety of the subject matter he had chosen and the range of media he had used. It was my hope that some boys might ask themselves: “Why can’t I prepare for an Art Scholarship, just like Alfie?” If you would like to know more about this opportunity for your son, please do get in contact with me as soon as possible.

I then alerted the boys to two Art competitions: the first is open to all boys but the second is not.

The Royal Academy of Art is now accepting entries to their Young Artists’ Summer Show. This is open to all boys aged 4 and up. If your son has work that he would like to enter, please could you ensure that it is delivered to me no later than Monday 28 March so that I can enter it into the competition on his and your behalf. I am afraid that I cannot enter work that is been assisted in any way by someone other than your son as I will need to vouch for its authenticity.

I will also be selecting ten works from our curriculum lessons (five senior works and five junior works) which will be exhibited at this year’s King Edward VI School’s Hampshire Prep School Art show. Should your son’s work be selected, you and your son will receive an invitation to the opening of the exhibition in Southampton in early March.

I was also able to share with the boys that due to the kindness and generosity of one of our parents, and the sponsors he has secured, we will be contributing three 3-foot ‘leverets’ to the exciting ‘Hares of Hampshire’ public Art trail, which will open this coming summer. Every boy will have the opportunity to enter a design for the ‘skin’ of these leverets in the initial phase of this project. We will be sharing more information on this project as it develops.

If you would like to know more about any of these opportunities, please do not hesitate to email me for more information. Please do also have a look at the Art Department’s Instagram account for up-to-date photos of what we are doing in the Studio. You can find us at: @artatpilgrims
