Licence to Quill

The Year 5 English teachers handed out their first wave of pen licences this morning! Congratulations to all the boys who received their licences, we look forward to handing out more next term. Well done to Otto, who also received his pen licence today but was absent for the photo.

How do the boys get a pen licence? Through lots of practice! Their letter formation, size and style must be consistent, and they must demonstrate that they can use a neat, cursive script (joined-up writing) in all their classwork and their prep. From the moment they join Pilgrims' the boys work really hard on their handwriting. They are encouraged to hold their pen correctly, position their book carefully and to adopt a good posture while they write. All of these things can really help improve the presentation of their work.

The pen of choice? A Lamy fountain pen - great grip and perfect for transferring from pencil to pen.
