This has been a busy week, and John Walters, Head of Art at Pilgrims', writes about three pieces of exciting news from the department.

Pilgrims' Year 4 artwork from 2021 included in national publication

During a visit to Winchester College's exceptional Art Department on Wednesday 22 June, it was brought to my attention that our Year 4 Jabberwocky illustration project from 2021 had been included in the official Seawhite of Brighton national Art & Design Materials catalogue for 2023.

I am grateful to the Head of Art at Winchester College, Mr Michael Bruzon, for sharing this news with me, and to Seawhite of Brighton for placing this image in a catalogue that every Art Department in the UK received at the start of this year. We are very fortunate indeed to have been included in such a far-reaching publication.

Year 8 Self-Portraits on display for boys and parents

On the afternoon of Thursday 23 June, boys and parents were treated to a preview of the upcoming Art and D&T exhibition with a display of the Year 8 self-portraits held in the Octagon. There was a palpable buzz amongst all the boys and some proud parents basking in the creative glow of their talented sons.

Well done to all of the Year 8 artists for creating such striking and captivating images. Thank you for your contribution to Art at Pilgrims'! We will miss you, but we wish you well on your exciting future endeavours.

Comic Book 2022 drops in Tutor Period

Due to a speedy print return, we are able to distribute this year's Pilgrims' Comic Book to the boys who pre-ordered their copy.

The response from boys and staff has been overwhelming positive and our young illustrators are beaming with pride and satisfaction in a job well done.

Congratulations to our talented team of illustrators who produced the 40 pages of content in the Junior and Senior Comic Book Creation Commoner.

We will be donating all money raised through the sale of the Comic Book to the Team Seas and Team Trees charities.

A limited number of copies will also be on sale during next week's Art Exhibition, so do bring a pound with you if you would like your own copy.
