Juniors’ Trip to The Theatre Royal, Winchester

On Thursday last week, boys from the Junior department followed the trail of Cinderella’s glass slipper to the Theatre Royal, Winchester for this year’s knock-out pantomime: you’ve guessed it, Cinderella.

We watched transfixed as Cinders was treated monstrously by her cruel (yet hilarious) stepsisters and nasty (possibly misunderstood) stepmother. Everyone ‘ahhhh’ed when she met the handsome Prince, ‘ooooh’ed when the (quite masculine) Fairy Godmother transformed her into Princess Crystal and ‘awwww’ed when the glass slipper left behind fitted her petite foot, meaning she was to marry her Prince. We also ‘booooh’ed the baddies and sang along with Buttons in the true panto tradition.

Pilgrims’ sat in the front rows and thoroughly enjoyed the performance, which was brim-full of the things we all love about pantomimes – original songs, corny jokes for the children and members of staff alike and loads of audience participation! It really was such incredibly good fun, a fab-u-lous production and a new experience for some!

Huge thanks to the Pilgrims’ catering department for preparing all of our drinks and snacks to take with us, not to mention packed lunches on our return, and all the members of staff who accompanied the boys; it is certainly an experience to be recommended.
