Year 6 and Year 7

Year 6
In Science, both 6X and 6Y took advantage of the fine weather to get outside to run around. Why? To investigate how exercise affects the breathing rate and how quickly breathing returns to normal once activity stops. Data was collected: the number of breaths per minute for 10+ minutes. The data was analysed, the concept of recovery rate as a function of fitness discussed and graphs drawn. All in all good fun for the pupils, science skills honed and new knowledge gained.

Year 7
Year 7 worked with knowledge gained about separating substances and chromatography in previous years to use a specific solvent to separate the colours in leaves. They found that leaves did not just contain the green substance chlorophyl but other substances such as xanthophyll (yellow) and carotenes (dark yellow or orange-yellow) as well.
