Still life in lockdown

Previous

The theme for the first half of this term is Lockdown Still Life and Years 3 to 7 have all been studying variations of this theme in their art lessons.

This week, Year 6X and 6Y staged their own vanitas still life arrangements at home. According to TATE (2020), a vanitas is a: "still life artwork which includes various symbolic objects designed to remind the viewer of their mortality and of the worthlessness of worldly goods and pleasures."

The Year 6 boys have outdone themselves with some incredible and elaborate arrangements, rich in symbolic meanings. They will be using their photographs to draw from over the next few weeks of term, so watch this space! Well done to these brilliant young artists and thank you to all parents who have allowed them to scrounge around the house looking for objects to include in their photographs.
