Quirister Concert at St Mary's Church, Twyford SO21 1NT on Saturday 12 November 7pm
Contact: rosnell83@gmail.com.

Tickets (including a glass of wine and light refreshments) are available on the door at £18, with children (under 12) free.

This is always a lovely concert, with the Qs singing a mixed programme of both religious and popular music.

The event is in aid of Winchester GoLD, formerly Winchester Mencap, that supports local people with learning disabilities. The charity organises a number of weekly activities for members such as Low Level Circuit Training, Tai-chi, Funky Lunches (involving shopping and cooking their own lunch), in and around Winchester, and provides members with fun exercise and opportunities to socialise and job hunt where appropriate. Underpinning everything the charity does is a desire to help members live life to the full.  If you would like further information, please call 07769 971299.

World-Class Musicians Combine for St Faith’s Parish Fundraiser

The Winchester College Chapel Choir and the English Chamber Orchestra will be joining forces in a fundraising concert for the Parish of St Faith, in a concert at the Hospital of St Cross on the Friday 2nd December at 7pm. The programme of seasonal classics, entitled This Little Babe, will include well-known works by Bach, Britten, Corelli and Darke.

The choir and orchestra will be joined by accomplished soloists Sam Cobb, Oscar Golden-Lee and Charlie Baigent, who have performed with acclaimed vocal groups Sansara, The Tallis Scholars, and King’s College Chapel Choir, among many others.

Tickets are selling fast but still available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/wincoll, priced from £15 for adults and £10 for children.

Howard Ionascu, Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College, and conductor of This Little Babe, said, “This is an exciting opportunity to hear the English Chamber Orchestra outside London, and the only opportunity this year to hear them perform with the Winchester College Chapel Choir.”

Rev’d Dominik Chmielewski, Rector of the Parish of St Faith, said “We are most grateful to these fantastic musicians for coming to St Cross to give a concert which will contribute funds for the work of our Parish. It will be an evening to remember for all who come to our beautiful chapel to be immersed in the mystery of the Christmas message.”

Notes

Winchester College Chapel Choir was founded in 1382. It combines the Quiristers (boys attending The Pilgrims’ School who sing the higher parts) and the “Back Rows” (boy and girl pupils from Winchester College who sing the lower parts). The Chapel Choir has a busy performing and recording schedule. This Christmas they will be recording with the London Mozart Players, and at Easter will be visiting Paris for services and concerts.

The English Chamber Orchestra has been performing across the UK and globally for over 60 years and is the most recorded chamber orchestra in the world. HRH King Charles III has been its Patron since 1977 and the orchestra has performed at royal weddings, birthday celebrations and other events including the first concert ever to be broadcast from Buckingham Palace.
