Martin Luther King Jr.

In this week’s Thursday Reflection, pupils learned about Martin Luther King Jr., and his leadership of the American Civil Rights Movement. Discussions began by considering how we can create a fair society in general and then, in particular, what racism is and how we can stop it. King’s role as a figurehead of the Civil Rights Movement was discussed, as was his ability to cope with the continued threats to him and his family. It was suggested that his strong Christian faith - King was a Baptist minister – enabled him to overcome his fears.
