Wings of Wisdom: A Falconry Adventure Comes to a Close

What an incredible journey we’ve had exploring the thrilling world of falconry this term!
While our course has sadly come to a close, the memories we created will last a lifetime. The boys gathered around Paul the Falconer, eager to dive into the secrets of this ancient art of hunting, once cherished by the nobility right here at Wolvesey.
From sleek Ger falcons to magnificent Harris hawks, agile merlins, and the awe-inspiring great horned owls, our feathered friends truly stole the show! Each bird had its own story, and Paul Mannings, Falconer, shared the deep connections he has built with these remarkable creatures over the years.
With passion and patience, Paul and his partner Mandy guided the boys through hands-on experiences, teaching them the art of swinging a lure, simulating a hunt, and enjoying the exhilarating moment of releasing birds to land right on their arms. It felt like magic in action!
A massive thank you to Paul and Mandy for sharing their expertise and love for falconry with us. We've all been so inspired! You can see Paul, Lord Montagu's falconer, at Beaulieu Abbey during the summer when he is presenting The Living History shows.
