Year 3 have been counting the rings of a tree to find out how old it is - and discovered this can be really quite challenging.

So, we decided to try another method for finding out how old a tree is.

Each hand span represented 5 years, and so the boys were able to discover any tree's approximate age by counting the number of hand spans that went around the tree and then using their maths skills to multiply it by 5! As the session progressed, the boys’ estimations also improved.
