Senior Speech Competition Finals

On Tuesday, 11 boys across Years 6 and 7 spoke persuasively or informatively about their chosen topics.

The topic choices ranged from Pokemon to the justification of the assassination of Julius Ceasar, from Noodles to the NHS.

Judged brilliant by Alistair Henfrey, the Head of English at Winchester College, we were treated to a range of well-delivered and interesting speeches which made his job very difficult. It's worth remembering that the boys are only young, really, so to be able to stand up and deliver speeches from memory, with confidence and awareness of rhetorical devices, is hugely impressive.

Highly commended in Year 6 was Rio C, highly commended in Year 7 was Leon S and the overall winner was Cameron S from Year 6.

Huge congratulations to them, but also to all the finalists for making it such an enjoyable event.

Mr Will Darlow
Head of English
