Year 4 residential to Tile Barn activity centre, New Forest
The Year 4 boys had a truly memorable experience on their recent residential trip to Tile Barn Outdoor Activity Centre. We were blessed with lovely weather—not too hot, just perfect for outdoor adventures—which helped set the tone for a fantastic time away.
Upon arrival, the excitement was palpable. The boys quickly explored their surroundings and settled into the bunkhouse with great enthusiasm. Our first afternoon was action-packed, featuring a variety of activities that tested both bravery and teamwork. Den building allowed the boys to show off their creativity, while the vertical gym climb pushed many out of their comfort zones—it was very high and quite a challenge! Problem-solving tasks gave everyone a chance to work together and think strategically.
During downtime, the boys had the chance to enjoy the beautiful woodland setting, playing football and cricket or simply relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. Supper was a highlight—delicious curry and rice—expertly prepared by the Tile Barn catering staff, who took excellent care of us throughout the trip.
Evening activities kept the boys engaged and happy. A nature scavenger hunt had them searching high and low with great enthusiasm, followed by the chance to create nature-inspired collages using their findings. Bedtime went smoothly, with the boys settling down quickly and getting a solid night’s sleep—something both boys and staff appreciated!
The next morning began with a hearty breakfast to fuel the final adventures. The main activity was a whole-site orienteering challenge that all the boys tackled with great energy and determination. Their efforts were noted and praised by the activity leaders, who were clearly impressed.
After tidying up dorms and communal areas, we enjoyed a final session of sport and relaxation before boarding the minibuses home. Everyone returned to Pilgrims' tired but happy, having made memories that will last a long time.
A huge thank you goes to the wonderful staff at Tile Barn for their warm hospitality, to the Pilgrims’ staff for their care and dedication, and to the parents for their support and organisation. Most importantly, thank you to the boys, who represented Pilgrims’ with fantastic energy, teamwork, and spirit. Well done, Year 4!
