Pilgrims' Literary Festival

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a UK-wide campaign designed to inspire more people to rediscover a love of reading. In support of this, on Monday, we had our Pilgrims' Literary Day.

In the morning, we had Margaret Sturton, a local author, come and deliver a series of workshops to the boys, talking about her journey into becoming an author, and her creative process. I was struck by how interested the boys were and the depth of questioning that came from it. The boys also created some magnificent characters with pencils and bits of torn up paper!  Alongside this, the boys then had a curated browse at P&G Wells; this was brilliantly led by Jo and her team at the bookshop, and the boys were SO excited to be able to pick a book. Thank you, parents, for your support of this.

When we came back to school to continue with our literary 'Guess Who' and 'Guess the shelfie' quiz, the boys were mainly too excited with their new books. As I looked around, I saw boys lying in the sun, alone, or with friends, completely immersed in their new books; it was completely brilliant. The love of reading is strong at Pilgrims' and long may it continue.
