Juniors’ Trip to The Theatre Royal, Winchester.

On Tuesday, boys from the Junior department followed the Yellow Brick Road to the Theatre Royal in Winchester.

They were bound to watch the Theatre’s own panto-style production of The Wizard of Oz. We were mesmerised as Dorothy left Kansas rather unexpectedly, met the munchkins, and aided by the Good Witch Glinda, set off to Oz so that she could find her way home. On the way, along with Dorothy, we saw the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion all find true friendship and gain the things they thought they wanted most: a brain, a heart and courage, only to find that Dorothy and their adventures culminating in ridding Oz of the Wicked Witch of the West, had shown they had these things after all.

We sat in the Circle and thoroughly enjoyed the performance which was brim-full of the things we all love about pantomimes – original songs, corny jokes, and loads of audience participation! It really was such good fun and a new experience for some.

Huge thanks to all the members of staff who accompanied the boys; it is certainly a production to be recommended. And, the boys would like to thank Mrs Talbot and the catering team for the interval snacks they prepared for us and picnic lunches on our return. They were much enjoyed by all. Panto is hungry work!
