Boarding excursion

Last Sunday, the boarders enjoyed a hot chocolate in town before their excursion to Fort Nelson, Portsmouth.

Following the recent deluge of rain, it was a welcome surprise to see the blue sky for a change when we woke last Sunday. Getting out and about was our prime objective, so after the traditional Sunday full English breakfast, we traipsed into town to have a bimble. The boys commented on the progress of the Christmas decorations and the upcoming market, along with the eye-catching Remembrance display along the railings of the West door of the Cathedral. A fun stop at the Abbey Gardens playground was well-received, and the boys were treated to a hot chocolate overlooking the high street. A hearty roast for lunch was followed by a short trip down the M3 and M27 to Fort Nelson.

Nestled atop Portsdown Hill near Portsmouth, this well-preserved fort is a gateway to history. The collection of artillery was a highlight, showcasing the evolution of weaponry over the centuries. Interactive exhibits and hands-on activities kept the boys engaged and made history come alive. The visit concluded with a refreshing ice lolly (yes, in November!) and one member of staff left wishing we had a chance to see the Armstrong gun demonstration!
