Family Carols in New Hall

The Quiristers treated us to a captivating and festive afternoon on 13 December.

Since the arrival of our new choirmaster, Dónal McCann, there have been exciting additions to our choir events. One of the latest highlights is the Family Carols event, which brings together the Winchester Philharmonic Choir, the close harmony ensemble Cantores Episcopi from Winchester College, and the Quiristers.

The afternoon began with a burst of joy as the congregation joined in a spirited rendition of “The 12 Days of Christmas,” echoing the cheerful refrain of “5 Gold Rings” that filled the air with festive energy. Following this merry introduction, the Quiristers captivated everyone with their ethereal performance of "Wiegenlied" by Max Reger, the gentle melodies weaving a serene atmosphere that enveloped the audience.

As the carols continued to flow, it was time for Cantores Episcopi to take the spotlight. With great poise, Isabella Rakowicz stepped forward to perform "Walking in the Air," her voice soaring like a delicate winter breeze, enchanting all who listened. The ensemble then continued with their whimsical takes on “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” infusing each classic with a refreshing twist that had everyone smiling.

As the afternoon reached its end, the performers invited the audience to join in one last time with a joyful rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” the room resonating with warmth and togetherness, creating a truly magical conclusion to an  afternoon filled with the spirit of the season.
