Regatta success
Eleven eager boys in the sailing team hit the high seas on Wednesday for their autumn regatta, shared this year with sailors from nearby Prince’s Mead. After a packed lunch and a briefing from chief instructor Jazz, everyone piled into the safety boats for a lift out to their Qubas which were ready rigged and on moorings, before being towed out to the race area off Weston Shore.
With light winds and a flat sea, conditions were ideal, and the boys sailed three races back to back. Pilgrims’ were consistently first over the line and displayed good skills upwind making the windward mark in good time. Will and Joss held their course and came in to finish first overall. Christopher and Ben were sailing well too, taking second place, followed closely by Buzz and Rory in third place. However, Sam achieved the highest status with the ‘Best Improver’ award, which was awarded to children chosen from all the schools sailing at SWAC during this term and won in conjunction with Prince's Mead. Well done, everyone! Roll on next April when we can look forward to seeing the team back together again.
