Thursday Reflection

Previous

In this week’s Thursday Reflection, pupils learned about the life of David Sutherland OBE (1933 – 2023).

Sutherland was the much-acclaimed Scottish illustrator and comic artist who, with DC Thomson, was responsible for the Bash Street Kids, Dennis the Menace and Fred’s Bed for the Beano and the second version of Jak for the Dandy (cf. David Sutherland (2023) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Sutherland_(comics)). In learning about his life, pupils considered the essence of professionalism – according to his friends, Sutherland was an exceptional example of this - commitment to work that you love, and the life of a comic artist. A big thank you to Alfie O in 5W for giving me this idea.
