Year 6 Normandy trip

Year 6 are currerntly away in France visiting historic castles and monuments, plus some beaches and museums. They have been blessed with amazing weather and are having a wonderful time.

Greetings were sent from the ferry late on Wednesday afternoon this week.

The boys had just had dinner and were soon due to dock in France before making the short journey to the hotel near Gold beach. They were all on great form, having had a good day with a stop en-route to the ferry first, at the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth, which they loved. A highlight was getting to go on the last remaining landing craft (there were approx. 800!). The crossing was mercifully calm, and the boys enjoyed themselves very much exploring, playing games, and most importantly, spending some money!

The next morning, we journeyed back to the 11th Century at  Falaise Castle, seat of William the Conqueror, with a great tour guide and the boys particularly enjoyed the castle shop!

The afternoon was a leap to the 20th Century, with a visit to the Caen Memorial Museum to find out more about the D-Day landings, followed by a trip to Arromanches to visit both the 360 degree cinema, and to have some time on the beach. After a good run on the beach, the boys returned to the hotel, had dinner and were soon tucked up for an early bed ready for Friday at Mont St Michel.
