SCARF Workshops

We welcomed Lucy Wooster from Coram Life Education to Pilgrims’ this week to run a series of workshops with Years R to 6 aimed at promoting wellbeing, emotional resilience, and positive relationships. The sessions provided our boys with an interactive and age-appropriate space to explore themes such as friendship, managing emotions, healthy choices, and personal responsibility.

Across all year groups, pupils were immersed in activities that encouraged reflection and open discussion. Younger boys enjoyed role-play and storytelling to help them recognise feelings and understand kindness, while older pupils tackled more complex topics including peer influence, digital wellbeing, and strategies for handling pressure both inside and outside the classroom.

The annual three-day programme forms part of our broader Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum, ensuring that our boys are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to navigate both everyday challenges and their wider personal growth.

Some of the comments made by our boys included:

  • Year 3 pupil: ‘I enjoyed finding out about our nervous system and how there are miles of nerves inside us.’
  • Year 4 pupil: ‘It’s so good to spend time together with our friends.’
  • Year 5 pupil: ‘I can see how being assertive can really work with our friends.’
  • Year 6 pupil: ‘I found out that our brains release different chemicals.’

Our boys engaged beautifully throughout the week, and Lucy was very impressed with their manners, empathy and good humour.

Coram Life Education run SCARF workshops in over 2500 schools a year, reaching 570 000 children. We look forward to hosting Lucy and Harold the Giraffe again next year.
